Start here 👀

Kondo Desktop is a desktop app for your WhatsApp inbox. It runs on its own — no browser, no browser extension.

It gives your chats an inbox you can clear: archive what's done, set a reminder on what you'll come back to, and label the rest.

Your chats stay on your device. Labels, reminders, and snippets live in your account so they follow you, but message history, contact names, and attachments are never uploaded to Kondo's servers. See Your data.

Install

Download Kondo Desktop, then follow the steps for your platform. The download page picks the right build for the computer you open it on.

Mac

Requires macOS 13.3 or later, on Apple silicon and Intel Macs. One download covers both.

Open the .dmg and drag Kondo to your Applications folder.

Mac (Homebrew)

There's a Homebrew tap. Trust it once, then install:

brew trust trykondo/kondo
brew tap trykondo/kondo
brew install --cask kondo

The app updates itself, so brew upgrade normally has nothing to do.

Windows

Requires 64-bit Windows 10 or later. Kondo uses Microsoft’s WebView2 runtime; Windows 11 and up-to-date Windows 10 already have it, and the installer fetches it if yours doesn’t.

Run the .exe. It installs for your user account, so no administrator password is needed.

The installer is signed by Team Beluga PTE. LTD. If SmartScreen shows a warning on first install, choose More info → Run anyway.

Shortcuts use Ctrl where the Mac uses Cmd — Ctrl + K opens the command palette.

Linux

Runs on x86_64 (Intel or AMD) with WebKitGTK 4.1, such as Ubuntu 22.04 or later. There is no ARM build, so not a Raspberry Pi or an ARM laptop.

Ships as a .deb, a .rpm or an AppImage. The download page hands you the .deb by default and links the other two.

On Debian and Ubuntu:

sudo apt install ./Kondo_*_amd64.deb

On Fedora and RHEL:

sudo dnf install ./Kondo-*.x86_64.rpm

An AppImage needs no package manager. Make it executable and run it:

chmod +x Kondo_*_amd64.AppImage
./Kondo_*_amd64.AppImage

A .deb or .rpm updates through your package manager, so you'll be asked for your password. An AppImage replaces itself.

Updates download in the background and apply when you restart. Required updates install and relaunch on their own — nothing is lost.

Sign in

Open the app and sign in. It opens your browser to finish, then hands you back.

You need an active subscription.

Pair WhatsApp

Pairing works the same way as WhatsApp Web: a linked device on your phone. Your phone stays the main device.

  1. The app shows a QR code.
  2. On your phone, open WhatsApp.
    • iPhone: Settings → Linked devices
    • Android: Menu → Linked devices
  3. Tap Link a device and scan the code.

Scan from inside WhatsApp. The camera app won't pair.

QR codes expire after a few minutes. A fresh one appears when that happens.

Chats and history load as WhatsApp sends them to a linked device, in batches, so the inbox is usable before everything has arrived.

Keep your phone reachable. WhatsApp unlinks devices that stay offline for a long stretch — if that happens, pair again from the same screen.

Permissions macOS asks for

  • Contacts — required, for names instead of phone numbers. Grant it in System Settings, then retry.
  • Notifications — optional. Skip it and pairing still finishes; you can turn notifications on later.
