WhatsApp MCP server: connect Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor to your chats
Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any MCP client to the WhatsApp inbox in Kondo Desktop. Your agent can search chats, write drafts for you to send, and keep conversations labeled and on schedule.
How the WhatsApp MCP server works
Kondo hosts a Model Context Protocol (MCP) endpoint that talks to the Kondo desktop app on your computer. Any client that supports remote MCP servers over Streamable HTTP can connect to it.
What your agent can do in WhatsApp
- Search — Look up chats by contact, text, date, or whether they hold photos, videos, voice messages or files. Voice messages come with transcripts.
- Drafts — Prepare replies, or open a new conversation by contact or phone number. Nothing goes out until you send it from Kondo.
- Organizing — Add labels, archive, mark read or unread, mute, and set reminders.
- Contacts — Find people by name, phone, email or username, including address book contacts you haven't messaged, and keep a note on each.
- Snippets — Reuse saved templates, or create new ones with placeholders.
Using LinkedIn? Kondo runs it in your browser, with a separate server and its own tools: see Kondo's LinkedIn MCP server.
Connect your agent to WhatsApp
What you need first
MCP is available on the Business and Enterprise plans.
A team admin can turn MCP off for the whole team under Settings > Team > Allow MCP.
- Kondo desktop app must be open — MCP only works while the Kondo app is running on your computer. Install Kondo.
- OAuth sign-in — You'll authenticate with your Kondo account the first time you connect.
Test the connection
Start with a read-only request such as "What inboxes do I have in Kondo?" Your agent should list your inboxes and labels without changing anything. If it can't find any Kondo tools or reports that Kondo is offline, check the fixes further down this page.
Add the WhatsApp skill
Once connected, give your assistant the Kondo skill so it knows how to use the tools well: what to ask first, how to pace itself, and what it can and cannot do. Save it as SKILL.md in your assistant’s skills folder, or paste its contents into the assistant’s instructions.
Example prompts for WhatsApp
Here's what you can do once connected:
Catch up on unread chats
Draft WhatsApp replies in bulk
Sort chats with labels
Stay on top of follow-ups
Limits and privacy
- Drafts only. Your agent can't send. You review and send every message in Kondo.
- Read receipts are real. When your agent marks a chat read, the other person sees it in WhatsApp.
- Data privacy — Message data is read from the Kondo app on your computer. Command and response data passes through Kondo's relay in memory and is not stored. Privacy Policy.
- One computer at a time. Kondo Desktop has to be open, and only one computer answers your agent.
