Getting started

Inbox zero

Kondo is built around inbox zero: treat your chats like a to-do list and empty it out.

A chat list that never ends means scrolling to find what still needs a reply, and marking chats unread so you don't lose them. Inbox zero replaces that with one job — clear the list.

The three actions

  • Archive (E) — you're done with the chat. It leaves your inbox and comes back at the top when the next message arrives.
  • Reminder (H) — you'll deal with it later. It leaves your inbox and returns when the reminder is due.
  • Label (L) — it belongs to a stream of work. The chat appears in that label inbox and stays in Inbox too. If you want labeling to clear your main view, work from Focused instead — it shows only chats with no labels.

Nothing is deleted. Archive is storage, and archived chats stay in search.

A pass through the inbox

  1. J and K move down and up the list. Enter opens a chat.
  2. Reply, then send with ⌘ + Enter — or ⌘ + Shift + Enter to send and archive in one move.
  3. [ archives and jumps to the next chat — the fastest way to work down a list.
  4. Select several chats with X, then archive, label, or set reminders on all of them.

When the list is empty, you're done — nothing is waiting on you.

Starting with a backlog

The first pass is the long one. Filter to Waiting for my reply (Shift + W) to see only the chats where the last message isn't yours, clear those, then archive the rest in bulk.
